Women's Hormone Care
Can birth control make perimenopause harder to recognize?
Yes. Hormonal contraception can change bleeding patterns and affect some symptoms, making the usual clues less clear. Having regular bleeding—or no bleeding—while using it does not by itself establish where you are in the menopause transition. NHS reference.
Your age, symptoms, history and the type of contraception all matter. This is a reason to review the whole picture, not to stop birth control to see what happens.
Menopause hormone therapy and contraception also serve different purposes; one should not automatically be substituted for the other.
