Which parts of my family’s health history are useful at a primary-care visit?

Share major conditions in close relatives and, when you know it, the age when they were diagnosed. Early heart disease, diabetes and certain cancers can be especially useful information when discussing your own risk and screening needs. CDC.

You do not need a perfect family tree. Knowing that a parent had a heart attack unusually young is more helpful than waiting until you can obtain every medical record.

Family history does not mean you will develop the same condition. It helps put prevention into context.
